Rules

PARTICIPATION CONDITIONS:

  1. May apply to enter the competition, competitors of any nationality who meet the age limits defined in the participation levels (the age the competitor has on 22 July 2018, the date of the start of the competition)
  2. The Registration Form, duly completed, must be received by the secretary of the Association, by electronic means, by hand or by postal mail, until July 13, 2018 (deadline for the postal stamp: July 8) After that date, registrations may not be accepted. Online registrations can be sent through the website of the CIMG International Music Festival of Guimarães: www.cimg.live or by e-mail hello@cimg.live
  3. Candidates must submit a passport (clear) photograph and a photocopy of the Identity Card or Citizen Card
  4. Together with the application form, the scores of solo and piano accompaniment in digital format must be sent to the electronic address: hello@cimg.live
  5. The printed registration form must be filled out in capital letters, in the most legible manner possible.
  6. In case of high attendance, the Secretariat reserves the right to pre-select the candidates in the order of registration.
  7. The registration fees are as follows:
    • Categories D and E – € 60.00
    • Categories B and C – € 50,00
    • Categories A- € 40.00
  8. The payment can be made by check endorsed to the Association, by a bank transfer to the IBAN: PT50 0035 0363 0010 3086 6308 5 (with compulsory sending of proof of payment) or via electronic via the processing portal of PayPal payments.

  10. Participants will perform in alphabetical order within the level at which they compete.
  11. All entries are public and will take place in the main auditorium of the Castle.
  12. Travel, subsistence and food expenses will be payed by the participants. However, the organizers will provide a list of hotel and restaurant partners of the festival.
  13. The organization is not responsible for not using original scores.
  14. All works will have to be performed from memory, with the exception of sonatas for violin and piano.
  15. The programs to be performed by the candidates can not be changed after July 13, 2018.
  16. The jury reserves the right to not award some of the prizes and their decisions are sovereign. Honorable Mentions may be awarded to competitors chosen by the jury.
  17. The registration in the International Violin Competition of Guimarães 2018 implies the transfer of audiovisual rights of the candidate. Applicants may exclude themselves from any recording by sending a written note via electronic mail.
  18. Missing cases will be resolved by the organization of the competition.
  19. The schedule of tests and trials will be sent to competitors through the e-mail that appears on the registration form.
  20. The Accompanying Pianist is assured by the festival, for whoever wants it.
  21. Students will have to check in one hour before the beginning of the tests of their category with an identity card.

JURY

It will consist of 4 elements and presided over by the remarkable personality Yasuko Myiauchi

  1. The jury reserves the right to interrupt the performance of each candidate, if it deems appropriate.
  2. The jury reserves the right not to award any prize.
  3. The decisions of the jury shall be final and unappealable.
  4. In exceptional cases where the competitor is a student of one of the members of the jury, this júri will not vote or discuss the result

DATES

  1. Testing and final events will be held on July 22nd, 23rd, and 24th
  2. The concert of “Opening of the International Contest of Guimarães 2018” will be held in late afternoon on July 22nd, in the Main Auditorium of the Palace of the Dukes.
  3. The Concert of Laureates will be held on July 24th, at 7:00 p.m., also in the Main Auditorium of the Palace of the Dukes, where certificates and prizes will be awarded. The winners of each category will be playing.
  4. On July 23rd, the A, B, C Examinations will take place in the evening, before the concert by the artists Jacky Wong and Gareth Szakos, the results of the same day events will be announced and the honorable mentions will be announced. Prizes will be delivered the next day at the closing ceremony.
  5. On July 24th, the D and E competitions will be held. The results will be announced at the end of each competition. The competitors and the program they will present at the final concert will be selected. The prizes and honorable mentions will be awarded at the final concert of the laureates.
  6. The more detailed calendars for the competitors will be presented on the website by the end of July 20 and sent by mail to each of the candidates, with the time and place of testing for the different levels.

CATEGORY E: Students up to 18 years old
Single round: Free recital up to 20 minutes
Must choose 2 or more contrasting pieces in their periods and/or characters

CATEGORY D: Students up to 15 years old
Single round: Free recital free up to 15 minutes
Must choose 2 or more contrasting pieces in their periods and/or characters

CATEGORY C: Students up to 12 years old
Single round: Two pieces of choice of contrasting characters up to 10 minutes

CATEGORY B: Students up to 9 years old
Single round: Two pieces of choice of contrasting characters up to 8 minutes

CATEGORY A: Students up to 7 years old
Single round: Two pieces of choice of contrasting characters up to 6 minutes

Awards

  1. All competitors will have an individual written opinion from each of the juries on possible musical, technical and performance parameters to improve
  2. Category A, B and C will be awarded honorable mentions of 1st 2nd or 3rd degree to all participants
  3. In categories D and E Three prizes are awarded in category D and E (first, second, and third prize) in addition to honorable mentions and participation certificates. There will be no ex-aequos.
  4. The organization of the competition has the possibility of increasing the value of the prizes and the number of prizes.

* The best competitor will be awarded a SIR brand violin and offered a masterclass by one of the juries

3rd prize – € 100.00 + Trophy + CD

Category E from 16 to 18 years old
1st prize – 500,00 € + trophy + CD + masterclass by one of the juries.
2nd prize – € 200.00 + Trophy + CD
3rd Prize – € 150.00 + Trophy + CD

BEST CANDIDATE OF GUIMARÃES
Diploma + CD + possibility to perform at a concert organized by the association Convívio in the season 2018/2019

BEST INTERPRETATION OF A PORTUGUESE MUSIC
Diploma + CD + possibility to perform at the Opening Concert of the International Violin Competition of Guimarães in 2019.

BEST ASIAN CANDIDATE
Diploma + CD + masterclass with a jury member

BEST TEACHER IN EACH CATEGORY
Diploma + CD + assignment in cash to designate

THE WINNER CONVÍVIO
He or she will be named the absolute winner and will be able to participate in the V or VI Hong Kong International Music Festival and Competition. The winner is offered free registration, direct entry into the final round of this competition in the corresponding category, free food, and masterclass with one of the international panel juries.
• Possibility of participation in the Opening Concert of the International Violin Competition of Guimarães in 2019, by the laureates classified first in each category.
• Diploma of participation for all competitors.
• The prize giving ceremony will take place at the Concert of Laureates, in which all the winning competitors must be present, otherwise they may compromise the reception of the respective prizes.
